It's been a busy month for Stoke-on-Trent City Council - here is a roundup of the biggest stories from August 2023.

Stoke-on-Trent City Council

On 1 August, the council released statistics that showed that they had visited 16 premises in the past few months and seized nearly 22,000 cigarettes.

Two days later, the council confirmed it will find a new home for an iconic lantern which used to hang in the atrium of the old library in Hanley.

The lantern will be transferred to Tunstall where it will be placed between the town hall and indoor market (LDRS).

On 8 August, the council announced that they had smashed their target of clearing 1,000 fly-tipping incidents across Stoke-on-Trent in less than half the time.

In terms of planning applications this month, the council has granted permission for St John's Church in Trent Vale to get a new roof, Middleport Park has been given the green light to demolish and rebuild a community pavilion and councillors approved plans for a new children's care home in Sneyd Green.

Council leader, Cllr Jane Ashworth, apologised to a mother and children who were left with a mouldy home for months on 16 August.

On the same day, the council announced that £117 million will be invested over the next five years to ensure that council-owned homes are comfortable, warm and in good condition.

Stoke-on-Trent City Council is now allowing residents to leave bagged rubbish alongside their grey bin on collection day (Nub News).

This month the council also advised residents that they are able to leave a maximum of two additional black bags next to their grey bin on scheduled collection days.

Currently, works to improve six public tennis courts across Stoke-on-Trent parks are ongoing, beginning with Longton Park.

Yesterday, the council announced that two major Stoke-on-Trent roads were to undergo a huge transformation to create 'safe and attractive' travel routes.
