Stoke-on-Trent markets to step back in time for 'Time Twist' family events

Stoke-on-Trent's indoor markets are hosting free family events celebrating different decades to mark 100 years of city status.
On Saturday 4 October, four markets will be holding decade-themed events featuring character appearances, DJ sets, games, and competitions.
Hanley will be celebrating the Nostalgic 90s, Longton is taking the Electric 80s, Tunstall the Sensational 70s and Stoke will host the Swinging 60s.
Tunstall Market officer, Eshan Shah, said: "We want to show younger traders that the markets are still going and it's not all about the internet.
"Come to the local markets, come visit us, come and support so younger traders can open new businesses."
To commemorate the Sensational 70s, Tunstall Market will be transformed on Saturday between the trading hours of 9am to 5pm with Northern Soul DJs, classic cars, and a fancy dress competition between the vendors to win a week of free rent for their stall.

The event will also mark the opening of a permanent children's area to encourage young families to visit.
Becky Berrisford, of The Community CAN a social supermarket which saves usable goods from going to landfill, said: "People come in to check out the event and then realise how great it is.
"We do have a full market so it's not empty stalls, it is always full and bustling."
The market is currently 87% full, and hopes to encourage new vendors through the event.

Julie Wright, of The Wright Occasion which sells prom and wedding dresses, said: "I've been doing this for twenty years and it's the best thing I've ever done.
"There is this stigma that markets are for old people buying potatoes but they aren't, there really is something for everyone here."
At Hanley, customers can expect appearances from Pikachu and Sonic the Hedgehog, as well as a 90s DJ and a movie poster trail.
The Terminator will be visiting Longton Market which will also host darts competitions in celebration of Longton's past as the home of the World Darts Championship from 1979 to 1985.
Stoke Market will be commemorating the 60s with a DJ, character trails and an appearance from Mary Poppins.
