A man who selfishly stole parcels from people's doorsteps in north Staffordshire has been jailed for 16 months.

Robert Martin, of Brown Edge, first stole an Amazon parcel containing a wig for a cancer patient from the front of a house in April this year before stealing other parcels from homes in Burslem, Stafford, Stone and Birches Head throughout the summer.

The 38-year-old also broke into a home in Newcastle-under-Lyme in the early hours of 8 June and made off on a bicycle kept inside.

Martin admitted four counts of theft, two counts of burglary and was sentenced at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on 17 September.

He was linked to the crimes through CCTV footage and forensic evidence.

Staffordshire Police says the number of burglaries in Staffordshire has decreased by 27% this year when compared to 2024.

A spokesperson said: "We're determined to keep working hard, night and day, to go after those responsible for this type of crime in local communities."
