Stoke council roundup: New cabinet, bus gates and changes to recycling centres

It's been a busy month for both Stoke-on-Trent City Council and Staffordshire County Council - here is a roundup of the biggest stories from the past month.

Stoke-on-Trent City Council

4 May: Labour took control of Stoke-on-Trent City Council for the first time since 2015 by winning a total of 29 seats.

8 May: Former council leader, Abi Brown, released a statement speaking of 'the best job in the world' after her election defeat. 

23 May: The council set out proposals for a new bus gate on Station Road which would ban traffic outside Stoke-on-Trent train station.

25 May: The brand-new cabinet was unveiled by council leader, Jane Ashworth.

Staffordshire County Council has also made a number of big decisions this month (LDR).

15 May: A new £2 million funding was secured to help councillors tackle potholes across Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire.

19 May: It was revealed that businesses from outside Staffordshire will be banned from disposing of trade waste in the county's recycling centres.

22 May: Staffordshire County Council announced that Stoke-on-Trent families on low incomes will be offered training to help manage their budgets and reduce spending as part of the latest round of Government financial support.
