Stoke Nub News has you covered for updates on the Stoke-on-Trent City Council election count as they happen.

A total of 44 seats are up for grabs across 34 wards.

The Conservatives enter tonights election in overall control as they currently hold 22 seats. Labour have 12, City Independents have six and other independent candidates have four.

Follow our live coverage below:

10pm: The polling stations across Stoke-on-Trent have now closed.

Returning officer, Jon Rouse, says: "Our aim is accuracy over speed - the count takes as long as it takes."

10.10pm: The first ballot boxes have started arriving at Fenton Manor Sports Complex.

00.02am: Gurmeet Singh Kallah (Labour) has been elected as councillor for Bradeley and Chell Heath ward with 787 votes.

Dany Suleman (Conservative) received 125 votes and Steven Taylor (Independent) got 83 votes.

The turnout for Bradeley and Chell Heath was 23.66%.

00.22am: Jane Ashworth (Labour and Co-operative) has been elected as councillor for Burslem ward with 700 votes.

Waqas Shahzad (Conservative) received 228 votes.

The turnout for Burslem ward was 20.44%.

00.33am: Finlay Gordon-McCusker (Labour and Co-operative) has been elected as councillor for Hollybush ward with 631 votes.

Shaun Bennett (Conservative) got 393 votes and Michelle Whalley (City Independents) received 118 votes.

There was a 25.02% turnout for Hollybush ward.

00.51am: Heather Blurton (Conservative) has been elected as councillor for Bucknall and Eaton Park ward after winning by a margin of only 45 votes.

She received 693 votes and Sam Hackney (Labour) received 648.

Andrew Bates (City Independents) got 54 votes and the turnout for Bucknall and Eaton Park ward was 29.67%.

1.17am: Abi Brown (Conservative) has been elected as councillor for Meir Park ward with 982 votes.

Labour candidate, Taimour Arfan, received 260 votes and Green Party candidate, Jenny Harper, received 95 votes.

The turnout for Meir Park was 33.14%.

1.38am: Labour has won another seat as Glen Watson (Labour and Co-operative) is elected as councillor for Burslem Park ward with 676 votes.

Lesley Adams (Conservative) received 423 votes and the turnout for Burslem Park was 25.42%.

1.49am: Sarah Colclough and Lynn Watkins (both Labour) have been elected as councillors for Bentilee, Ubberley and Townsend ward.

Colclough received 883 votes and Watkins received 717 votes.

Sharon Edwards (City Independents) received 308 votes, Dale Morrey (City Independents) received 217 votes, James Richardson (Conservative) got 243 and Christine Warren (Conservative) got 249 votes.

The turnout for Bentilee, Ubberley and Townsend was 15.72%.

2am: Shaun Pender (Labour) has been elected as councillor for Basford and Hartshill ward with 930 votes.

Conservative candidate, Waheed Karim, received 194 votes.

The turnout for Basford and Hartshill was 25.87%.

The live results are being declared by Returning Officer, Jon Rouse (Nub News).

2.07am: Labour have taken another seat as Stephen Watkins is elected as councillor for Abbey Hulton with 429 votes.

Mel Baddeley (Independent) received 272 votes, Luke Shenton (Reform UK) got 46 and Amanda Webber (City Independents) got 109 votes.

The turnout for Abbey Hulton was 17.23%.

2.17am: Conservatives have taken their third seat as Lorraine Beardmore is elected as councillor for Blurton with 705 votes.

Katherine Banks (Labour) got 495 votes, Brian Ward (Independent) got 75, and Susan Whalley (City Independents) got 57 votes.

The turnout for Blurton was 28.15%.

2.26am: Diane Williams (Labour and Co-operative) has been elected as councillor for Ford Green and Smallthorne ward with 775 votes.

Candi Chetwynd (Conservative) got 354 votes and the turnout for Ford Green and Smallthorne was 23.95%.

2.37am: City Independents gain their first seat as Lilian Dodd holds on to her position as Dresden and Florence ward councillor with 637 votes.

Nigel Ross (Labour) got 517 votes, Siona Williams (Conservative) got 132 votes and the turnout for Dresden and Florence was 27.18%.

As of 2.41am, Labour hold nine seats, Conservative have three and City Independents have one (Nub News).

2.45am: Labour gain two more seats as Laura Carter and Javid Najmi (both Labour) are elected as Moorcroft and Sneyd Green ward councillors.

Carter received 1157 votes and Najmi received 1198 votes.

Kerry Ellis (City Independents) got 555 votes, Tariq Mahmood (Conservative) got 787, Marilyn Marathe (Conservative) got 483 and Joanne Powell-Beckett (City Independents) got 720.

The turnout for Moorcroft and Sneyd Green was 29.17%.

2.55am: Labour gain another seat as Majid Khan is elected as councillor for Etruria and Hanley ward with 803 votes.

The Conservative candidate, Khalil Ahmed, received 249 votes and an Independent candidate, Qamar Sohail, got 381 votes.

The overall turnout for Etruria and Hanley was 29.44%.

3.08am: Labour gain two more seats as Steve Blakemore and Adrian Knapper are elected as councillors of Birches Head and Northwood ward.

Blakemore gained 957 votes and Knapper gained 830.

Jean Bowers (City Independents) received 694 votes, Ralf O'Neill (City Independents) got 509, William Weaver (Conservative) got 432, Harold Gregory (Conservative) got 412 and Morrighan Jordan (Green Party) got 98.

The turnout for Birches Head and Northwood was 25.53%.

3.20am: David Williams (Labour) has been elected as Little Chell and Stanfield ward councillor with 676 votes.

The Conservative candidate, Imran Khurshid, received 335 votes and the Independent candidate, Anthony Screen, 168 votes.

The turnout for Little Chell and Stanfield was 26.47%.

Stoke-on-Trent City Council hope to have final results in by 6.30am tonight (LDR).

3.30am: Conservatives have gained their fourth seat as Chandra Kanneganti is elected as councillor for Goldenhill and Sandyford ward with 860 votes.

Jeffrey Birks (Labour) got 265 votes and Alan Dutton (Independent) received 79 votes.

The turnout for Goldenhill and Sandyford ward was 25.45%.

3.37am: Daniela Santoro (Labour) has been elected as councillor for Hartshill Park and Stoke ward with 630 votes.

The Conservative candidate, Nathan Purchase, received 242 votes and an Independent candidate, David Barker, received 52 votes.

The turnout for Hartshill Park and Stoke was 25.13%.

3.45am: Labour gain another seat as Mubsira Aumir is elected as councillor for Fenton East ward with 513 votes.

Grant Barnes (Conservative) received 226 votes and Alan Gerrard (Independent) got 340.

The turnout for Fenton East was 24.09%.

3.50am: Lyn Sharpe (Labour) has been elected as councillor for Fenton West and Mount Pleasant with 581 votes.

Cheryl Gerrard (Independent) received 331 votes, Khawar Ali (Conservative) got 289 votes and Jordan Roden (Communist Party of Britain) got 25 votes.

The turnout for Fenton West and Mount Pleasant was 27.56%.

4am: Labour gain another seat as Chris Robinson is elected as councillor for Longton and Meir Hay South with 684 votes.

The Conservative candidate, Asman Ali, received 549 votes and the turnout for Longton and Meir Hay South was 27.07%.

4.10am: Conservatives have gained two seats and Labour have gained one in the Baddeley, Milton and Norton ward as Carl Edwards, Dave Evans and Duncan Walker are elected as councillors.

The votes received are as follows:

  • Carl Edwards (Conservative) - 1581
  • Dave Evans (Conservative) - 1743
  • Duncan Walker (Labour) - 1508
  • Daniel Mazhar (Labour) - 1480
  • Jenny Taylor (Conservative) - 1443
  • Fiona Wood (Labour) - 1143
  • Gary Elsby (Independent) - 817

The turnout for Baddeley, Milton and Norton was 26.65%.

4.15am: Labour gain their 21st seat as Desiree Gail Elliott is elected as Meir North ward councillor with 485 votes.

Sam Hussain (Conservative) received 164 votes and Michelle Swift (City Independents) received 279 votes.

The turnout for Meir North was 18.96%.

4.15am: Labour now hold 22 seats as Joan Bell is elected as Sandford Hill councillor.

Ally Simcock (Conservative) received 428 votes.

The turnout for Sandford Hill was 22.83%.

4.30am: Labour now hold the majority of seats as Andy Platt is elected as Boothen ward councillor with 662 votes.

Adam Colclough (Green Party) received 396 votes, Fesar Hussain (Conservative) got 126 votes and Mark Warrington (Independent) got 107.

The turnout for Boothern was 24.78%.

Labour now have overall control of Stoke-on-Trent City Council as they hold the majority of seats.

4.30am: Conservatives hold on to their seat in Meir South as Faisal Hussain is re-elected.

He received 684 votes and the Labour candidate, Bagh Ali, received 618.

The turnout for Meir South was 29.39%.

Labour now have the majority of seats in Stoke-on-Trent City Council (Nub News).

4.40am: Conservatives gain three seats in the Hanford, Newstead and Trentham ward as Daniel Jellyman, Maxine Clark and Rachel Kelsall are elected as councillors.

The votes received are as follows:

  • Daniel Jellyman (Conservative) - 2283
  • Maxine Clark (Conservative) - 2070
  • Rachel Kelsall (Conservative) - 2069
  • John Cunnison (Labour) - 1328
  • Lauren Davison (Labour) - 1169
  • Clare Stanier (Labour) - 1063
  • Andrew Gilbride (City Independents) - 583
  • Debbie Georgakakou (Green Party) - 574

The turnout for Hanford, Newstead and Trentham was 28.37%.

5.10am: Sadaqat Maqsoom (Conservative) has been elected as councillor for Lightwood North and Normacot ward with 1288 votes.

Omar Ali (Labour) received 970 votes and the turnout was 48.46%.

5.15am: Labour gain another seat as Waseem Akbar is elected as councillor for Trent Vale and Oakhill ward with 592 votes.

Bridge Allport (Independent) received 131 votes and Jackie Barnes (Independent) received 400 votes.

The turnout for Trent Vale and Oakhill was 27.02%.

5.20am: Tabrase Din is elected councillor for Tunstall ward - A gain for the Conservative Party.

They received 650 votes, Joy Garner (Labour and Co-operative) received 392 and Lee Ranger (Independent) received 277 votes.

The turnout for Tunstall was 28.70%.

5.25am: Another seat for Labour as Sarah Hill is elected as councillor for Penkhull and Springfields ward with 719 votes.

Dean Richardson (Conservative) got 478 votes and Tom Holland (Green Party) received 90 votes.

The turnout for Penkhull and Springfields ward was 30.23%.

5.35am: Two more seats for Labour as Alistair Watson and Amjid Wazir are elected as councillors for Hanley Park, Joiner's Square and Shelton Ward.

The votes were as follows:

  • Alastair Scott Watson (Labour) 1245
  • Amjid Wazir (Labour) - 1231
  • Murtaza Alam (Conservative) - 754
  • Alirom Raza (Independent) - 471
  • Raja Ravi Sangaraju (Conservative) - 454

The turnout for Hanley Park, Joiner's Square and Shelton was 26.85%.

5.40am: A further two seats for Labour as Great Chell and Packmoor ward elected councillors are Sue Akkhurt and David Mountford.

Sue Akkhurt received 774 votes and David Mountford received 710.

Jan Bridges (Conservative) received 621, Ann James (City Independents) got 602, James Robert Smith (Conservative) received 508 and David Owens (City Independents) got 466 votes.

The turnout for Great Chell and Packmoor was 23.41%.

5.50am: The final two seats go to the Conservatives as Craig Beardmore and Ross Irving are elected as councillors in Meir Hay North, Parkhall and Weston Coyney ward.

Craig Beardmore received 1409 votes and Ross Irving received 1293.

Zain Mohammed (Labour) got 720 and Samantha Yates (Labour) got 943 votes.

The turnout for Meir Hay North, Parkhall and Weston Coyney was 24.34%.

The final results are:

  • Labour: 29 seats
  • Conservatives: 14 seats
  • City Independents: 1 seat
