Six Stoke businesses have been awarded a five-star food hygiene rating in the past month - Nub News investigates which ones they are. 

The Food Standard Agency (FSA) Food Hygiene Rating Scheme, is aimed at helping people choose where to eat out or shop for food.

The FSA scheme is in partnership with local authorities in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

A five-star hygiene rating means 'hygiene standards are very good' for the business (FSA).

It gives businesses a rating from 0 to 5 - displayed at their premises and online.

Sangam, Stoke

Sangam was awarded a five-star hygiene rating following an inspection on 24 August (Nub News).

The Rabbit Hole Tea Rooms, Stoke

The Rabbit Hole was last inspected on 17 August (Nub News).

The Red Lion, Hartshill

The pub was awarded a five-star hygiene rating following an inspection on 18 August (Google).

Domino's, Amison Street

Domino's, on Amison Street, was last inspected on 11 August (Google).

High Lane Oatcakes, Tunstall

This popular eatery was last inspected on 16 August (Google).

Market Grill, Tunstall

The eatery, inside Tunstall Indoor Market, was awarded a five-star hygiene rating following an inspection on 23 August (Nub News).

A food safety officer from Stoke-on-Trent City Council inspected the Stoke businesses to check that they were following food hygiene law so that the food was safe to eat.

At all inspections, the officer checked the following three elements: 

• How hygienically the food is handled – how it is prepared, cooked, re-heated, cooled and stored
• The physical condition of the business –including cleanliness, layout, lighting, ventilation, pest control and other facilities
• How the business manages ways of keeping food safe, looking at processes, training and systems to ensure good hygiene is maintained. The officer can then assess the level of confidence in standards being maintained in the future.

The five listed Stoke businesses were rated five-star based on all these checks.
