Plans for a new community hub for Kidsgrove have come forward – and an existing garage building will be replaced with new facilities.

Part of the Dales Garage site in The Meadows is set to make way for the development if regeneration proposals are given the green light by Newcastle Borough Council.

An application has been submitted by the authority to demolish an existing building and construct a garage and community hub. The redevelopment is part of the £16.9 million Kidsgrove Town Deal being led by the borough council.

A design and access statement submitted as part of the planning application said: "Currently the site consists of an existing garage and a public car park on the corner plot between Station Road and The Meadows. The reason for this application is to erect a community hub, which will become a focal point of Kidsgrove, offering a number of different spaces for a variety of users.

"The total footprint of the proposed community hub is 248sqm. This allows for the space required to provide a multifunctional space for a variety of facilities, such as offices, meeting rooms, kitchens and a creche.

"The proposed car park will provide 25 spaces as well as two disabled spaces; this is an improvement compared to the existing car park, which provides 18 spaces. A new garage is also proposed, to replace space lost due to the demolition associated with the creation of the proposed community hub, as well as providing a service yard for this."
