Staffordshire Police have issued "around" 30 notices to nuisance drivers in an attempt to combat issues around Tunstall's Reginald Mitchell Way.

Over the summer boy racers descended on the stretch of road which links Sandyford and Tunstall with the A500.

Residents in Sandyford and Goldenhill who attended the last residents meeting held recently were told that based on phone calls and information submitted by residents to police action has been taken. Police are able to send Section 59 notices to anti-social drivers.

Section 59 notice allows police to order the person driving it to stop the vehicle; power to seize and remove the motor vehicle; and to enter any premises on which he has reasonable grounds for believing the motor vehicle to be. This could end up with police seizing the vehicle and taking it off the road to prevent future anti-social behaviour.

The notice allows people to seize a vehicle and take it off the road to prevent anti-social behaviour (Staffordshire Police).

However it seems that the boy racers have moved on and are causing problems on another North Staffordshire 'race track'. Staffordshire Police are already tackling issues on the A34 between Trentham and Tittensor.

Speaking on the Reginald Mitchell Way, Hayley Eaton said: "We did have that brought to our attention by local residents and also the councillor as well who came to speak with me. I am grateful that you continue to report to us because without the calls and without providing information we are not able to actually do something about the problem.

"So fortunately, because you gave us information we were able to act on it and we served a number of notices and letters to the people who were involved in those meets."

To report the boy racers call the police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
