A man has been jailed after admitting assaulting a man at a bar in Stoke-on-Trent last year.
Jayke Pender-Lovatt, 32, of no fixed address, was sentenced to one year and eight months in prison at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Tuesday 9 December.
He was also handed an extended period on licence of one year and eight months and ordered to pay a surcharge of £228.
The court heard how Pender-Lovatt was at a venue on Queen Street in Burslem in the early hours of 18 August 2024 when he attacked the victim, punching him to the face.
The victim suffered significant eye injuries in the assault which resulted in blindness in one eye.
Staffordshire Police explained that Pender-Lovatt was later arrested and charged with wounding/inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent. He admitted the offence in court in March this year.
Speaking following sentencing, Detective Constable Shannan Seddon, of Staffordshire Police's CID north team, said: "This was an unprovoked attack on the victim who did not know Pender-Lovatt and was merely enjoying a night out.
"The violence and level of injury Pender-Lovatt caused is life-changing and truly awful.
"I hope the sentencing gives some closure to the victim who is still coming to terms with what happened to them."
