The landlords of a popular pub in Caverswall will leave the venue later this month after six years behind the bar.

Sam and Josh Durkin took over The Red House back in 2018 and have spent the past six years building up a loyal customer base.

The brewery, Stonegate, served Sam and Josh with a notice to leave the pub earlier this year and the landlords confirmed to Nub News that they will hand the keys back on 25 June.

Sam told Nub News: "After we were served notice earlier this year, we have decided to hand the keys back to the brewery later this month.

"The Red House has been our home and our passion for the last six years and we have loved our time here but our pleas for help from the brewery have not been accepted.

"We would just like to thank all of our loyal customers, many of which have become close friends, and all our staff over the years.

The Red House hosted a sell-out 'farewell celebration' on Saturday 8 June, which Josh called "truly amazing".

He said: "We're still recovering but thank you to everyone who came and shared such a special day with us.

"Thank you to our staff, Dave Rushton and family for the beautiful hog roast, and all the musicians who performed on the day".

The Red House's head chef, Simon, has already left the pub to begin a new venture.

A spokesperson for Stonegate Group said: "Community favourite, The Red House in Caverswell is set to close on 15th June for a very brief period whilst a change of tenancy takes place.

"We hope to have the pub open and trading again in the coming weeks. If you are interested in running the popular local pub, please visit out Pub Partners website."
