A fundraiser has been launched after a family's home in Stoke-on-Trent went up in flames in an accidental fire caused by an overloaded brazier fire pit in the back garden.

Six crews from Staffordshire Fire and Recuse were called out to a fire in the roof space of a home near Greasley Road in Abbey Hulton yesterday.

Those inside the house were alerted to the fire by a neighbour on the street and they made it out of the property safely themselves but the roof of one property has been left with extensive damage.

Karla and Sophie Bailey have now launched a fundraiser online which has already surpassed £1.3k.

The page says: "Our family home & my dad's business place has gone up in flames.. if the fire didn't destroy most, the water did.. this house is our home.. lots of memories and love inside there. Any help would be appreciated."

Following a fire investigation this morning, Staffordshire Fire and Rescue found the fire had started accidentally after a brazier fire spread in the back garden of the home.

Fire Investigator Liam Hickey said, "Crews worked as quickly as possible to contain the fire yesterday and to minimise the damage caused to the property and neighbouring buildings.

"As we enter into spring, we know more people will be starting to use braziers and fire pits outside as the warmer weather comes in.

"Understanding the risks involved with using these devices is crucial in making sure incidents like this don't happen and you can keep people safe."
