Junior Parkrun in North Staffordshire is more popular than ever before

Junior Parkrun in North Staffordshire is more popular than ever before with a record attendance across the area over the weekend.
A total of 275 children ran the four Junior Parkrun events in North Staffordshire at Burslem Park, Longton Park, Lyme Valley in Newcastle and at Clough Hall Park in Kidsgrove on Sunday - a new record for the Potteries.
The 2k events for 4-14-year-olds are held on a Sunday alongside the usual Saturday 5k Parkrun which has become a weekend staple for many around the world.
Longton Junior Parkrun, which started in September 2018, also saw a record attendance of 107 children at the event on Sunday. The event has now been held 257 times and 1,600 different children have crossed the finish line over the years.

Jenny Harper, event director at Longton Junior Parkrun said: "I am delighted that so many children are turning up each week to help increase their fitness, enjoy the fresh air, make new friends and have an opportunity to explore many of the fantastic parks in the city.
"All four Junior Parkrun events in the Potteries would love to see more children taking part each week and we always make any new Junior Parkrunners welcome."
Each Junior Parkrun starts at 9am every Sunday morning and are free to enter. Children aged 4-14 can run and parents, guardians or older siblings are welcome to run with their children.
Runners, joggers and walkers are being encouraged to attend a Parkrun or a Junior Parkrun this coming weekend as part of the celebrations of 100 years since Stoke-on-Trent was granted city status.
The Lord Mayor, Cllr Steve Watkins, will be in attendance at the adult 5k Hanley Parkrun in Hanley Park on Saturday 14 June at 9am.
