A man has been arrested after a pedestrian was taken to the hospital following a "suspected non-stop collision" in Newcastle-under-Lyme.

Officers were called at 12.30pm yesterday (Tuesday 15 September) to High Street, Talke, following reports of a collision.

Staffordshire Police said a dark-coloured VW Caddy van and a pedestrian were involved.

The driver of the vehicle, a man, reportedly drove off following the collision.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: "The pedestrian, a man, was taken to hospital by ambulance.

"His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing."

Staffordshire Police has confirmed that a 52-year-old man, from Newcastle-under-Lyme, was arrested a "short time later" on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving whilst unfit through drink.

The man has since been released under investigation while inquiries continue.
