A young Stoke couple have raised over £2500 for the Forget Me Not delivery suite at Royal Stoke hospital after their twin girls were sadly born sleeping last month.
Karis, 20, and Jack, 24, were set to become parents in June but on 22nd February, Karis went into early labour. Ayda was born first at 8.20pm, followed by Remi at 2.15am but sadly, both girls were stillborn.
Thanks to a CuddleCot, Karis and Jack have been able to have their daughters home with them for 12 days before the funeral.
A CuddleCot is a small, portable, lightweight unit that enables families experiencing the loss of their baby to spend more time with them and enables more time to create memories.
But hospitals have very few of these units, so Karis and Jack decided to raise money to purchase another one for the Forget Me Not suite at Royal Stoke Hospital in memory of their twin girls.
Karis, from Fenton, told Stoke Nub News: "The 12 days we've had with our girls have been absolutely invaluable. Not only to process what has happened but to have that chance to be a Mummy and Daddy.
"We've taken them for walks in their pram, read stories, had endless cuddles and have just soaked up every minute we have with them.
"Because we have the CuddleCot, the girls have been at home where they belong and will be right up until the funeral.
"I will never be able to express how grateful we are to have this opportunity. To be able to raise so much money for the Forget Me Not Ward in Ayda and Remi's name has been amazing.
"The aftercare of losing a baby isn't something I had ever thought about. I didn't know that these things existed until the girls were born. No family should ever have to go through this, but unfortunately they do, every single day. And I hope we can repay even a fraction of the kindness we were shown during our stay on the ward."
A CuddleCot costs around £1700, and any extra money raised will be put towards anything that will help the midwives and families on the ward, such as sanitary products, keepsakes and baby books.
Karis is asking any small businesses who would like to donate items to the ward, to get in touch.
