Two Stoke-on-Trent pubs named among the best in England

Two Hanley pubs have been named among the best 500 in England.
The Golden Cup Inn, on Old Town Road, and The Coachmakers' Arms, on Lichfield Street, both made The Telegraph's list for the best boozers in the country.
The Boat & Horses in Newcastle-under-Lyme, The Yew Tree Inn in Cauldon, and The Swan Inn in Stone also made the list compiled by long-time pub writer, Will Hawkes, who has spent decades visiting thousands of pubs across the country.
Each entry was chosen for its character, atmosphere, history and, of course, good beer.
The Coachmakers' Arms dates back to the 1800s and was originally a terraced house but became a beer house between 1860 and 1870.
It took its name from the coach makers who were trading opposite. Originally owned by Bass, the pub still serves the famous ale today.
Of the pub, Hawkes says: "This is an old-fashioned pub, with rooms leading off a tiled central corridor: it sells more Bass than anywhere else in the six towns, one drinker confidently told me.
"I can't confirm or deny that, but it is a great place for a pint. Gents' loos are outside."
Meanwhile The Golden Cup Inn, which reopened in July of 2022, features an Edwardian facade proclaiming that it serves "Bass Only", believed to be unique to the county of Staffordshire.
There is a main bar area, with rooms either side and a patio area. As well as Bass, the pub has three other cask ales on the hand pulls, featuring a rotation of beers.
Of The Golden Cup Inn's £250,000 restoration, Hawkes says: "Everything has been done very nicely, right down to the mustard-coloured tiles in the men's loos.
"The exterior is probably the star, though, with its green Edwardian tiling containing the legend 'Bass Only'."
