The owners of a restaurant devastated by a fire on Monday morning have been left 'shocked and heartbroken'.

A fire broke out at the Furama Palace Chinese Restaurant yesterday morning (14 July) and investigators from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue are beginning a probe into the cause of the blaze.

Emergency services were alerted to the fire just before 4am and two people were taken to the Royal Stoke by the West Midlands Ambulance Service.

In a statement on social media the restaurant said: "Thank you everyone for your kind support and well wishes after what happened yesterday. Everyone is safe, no one was injured from the incident.

"We are still in shock and absolutely heart broken to see all the hard work we have done over the past few years destroyed like that yesterday.

"It has been such a pleasure to get to know all of you over the years, made some great friends and shared some great times. Thank you!"

On Monday, a spokesperson for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue said: "Firefighters have extinguished a large fire at a restaurant in Stoke-on-Trent.

"We were called to Newcastle Road, Trent Vale, at 3.45am today (Monday 14 July) following reports of smoke coming from a detached building.

"Five appliances including our aerial ladder platform (ALP) attended the scene and found a large fire in the roof of the building.

"Two main jets and two hose reel jets were used to extinguish the fire and two people were taken to hospital for precautionary checks.

"Crews remain at the scene to dampen down hot spots.

"An investigation into the cause of the fire will take place in due course."
