A 28-year-old man and a 56-year-old man have been jailed after admitting drug supply offences in Stoke-on-Trent.

Venancio Amorim, aged 28, and Wesley Da Silva Paiva, aged 56, each of no fixed address, appeared at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Monday 14 September.

They were each handed a three-year jail term after admitting possession with intent to supply class A drugs; cocaine.

Speaking following sentencing, Detective Superintendent Victoria Downing, of the Staffordshire Police Major and Organised Crime Unit, said: "We are determined to identify, pursue and prosecute those involved in the supply of drugs in our communities and I am pleased Da Silva Paiva and Amorim have been handed prison sentences for their offending.

"I hope their sentences demonstrate our commitment to getting those involved in drug dealing off our streets and that we will continue to do all we can to protect our communities from harm."

It comes after officers stopped a grey Nissan Note on Fleming Road in Stoke-on-Trent at around 2pm on Tuesday 7 April this year.

Staffordshire Police said the driver, Da Silva Paiva, was searched and "a quantity of suspected cocaine" was found along with keys to an apartment in Newcastle-under-Lyme.

Amorim was seen leaving the property and getting into a red Renault Clio. He was searched alongside the property and car, which revealed further suspected class A drugs.

The police force said the recovered drugs, packaged in 31 snap bags, were valued at approximately £1,600.

Mobile phones showing the pair's involvement in drug supply between Stoke-on-Trent and Newcastle-under-Lyme were also seized, along with cash.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: "In addition to their prison term, the pair were ordered to forfeit the seized cash and the drugs are to be destroyed."
