Two arrested after dog dies in flat fire in Stoke-on-Trent

A man and a woman have been arrested after a dog died in a flat fire in Stoke-on-Trent yesterday.

At 5.52pm on Sunday (30 July), Staffordshire Police and Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to Sutton Place in Chell Heath.

Firefighters extinguished a fire inside the ground floor of the building.

Despite no one being injured, a dog was sadly found dead inside.

A 49-year-old woman and a 40-year-old man, from Stoke-on-Trent, were both arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.

They remain in custody while enquiries continue today (31 July).

Police are currently working alongside fire investigators to determine the cause of the blaze and ask anyone with any information to get in touch.
