A pub in Stoke-on-Trent is gearing up to collect hundreds of Easter eggs this month to donate to local charities.

The Old Sal in Longton collects Easter eggs for the Star Bikers Charity Egg Run, this year starting at the Bet365 Stadium on Sunday 6 April at 11am.

Manager Paul Walding wants to beat the record 385 eggs that the pub collected last year and customers are encouraged to donate throughout March.

Mr Walding said: "I call out to get as many as we can and I'm trying to beat last year's record of 385 eggs - it's a big ask.

"Regular customers and local businesses bring them in to us and some of the people that come into the pub work in local supermarkets and businesses and donate to us as well."

The Old Sal has collected Easter eggs for the Star Bikers in previous years as well as donating toys as part of the charity's Christmas appeal.

The pub also collects advent calendars and toys around Christmas for local children's homes, the Gingerbread charity and the Alice charity.

Mr Walding added: "The eggs go to the Star Bikers as we are an official collection point and they come and collect them before the bike run.

"I've had letters from them saying thank you and saying they can't believe how many we have collected."

In addition, the Old Sal collect foodbank items for Longton Community Church and dog food for Pebbles Legacy Rescue.

Six others of Admiral Taverns' pubs in Stoke-on-Trent and Newcastle-under-Lyme will also be donating easter eggs to local charities.

The group is aiming to beat last year's total of almost 18,000 Easter eggs which were successfully donated nationally to communities in need.

Other Admiral Taverns pubs taking donations in the area include the Iron Monkey, Black Horse Inn, Mitchells, Cat Inn, Travellers Rest and the Berwick Inn.
