Two people rescued from fire in Newcastle-under-Lyme as guidance issued

Two people have been rescued by Staffordshire Fire and Rescue from a fire at a property in Newcastle-under-Lyme.
The fire, at a property on Birch Road, was deemed to be accidental and caused by the electrical fuse box.
The two women rescued were taken to hospital for precautionary checks.
The Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service is now reminding residents to check if their home appliances are in a safe condition.
An update from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue said: "We have rescued two people from a property fire which started accidentally in Newcastle-under-Lyme.
"We were called at 1pm on Monday (24 February) to a property on Birch Road in Wood Lane following reports of a fire.
"Fire control gave fire survival guidance prior to the arrival of fire crews, who then extinguished the fire and ventilated the property using a positive pressure ventilation and rescued two females from the property.
"They both went to hospital for precautionary checks.
"The fire was deemed to be accidental as a result of a fire in the electrical consumer unit."
The fire service is reminding people to ensure their home appliances are in safe working order, especially during the colder weather.
Top tips for keeping home appliances safe include:
- Using the right power supply for any appliance and not overloading plug sockets.
- Only purchase and use appliances that are suitably accredited with a British or European safety mark.
- Never leave appliances running while you are asleep or out.
- Regularly check your smoke detector is in good working order.
- Plan an escape route with your family so you know how to exit your property if you do encounter a fire in the home.
