The final roof tiles have been laid on a multi-million pound retirement complex in Stoke-on-Trent.

Regeneration and energy expert, Equans, is building the £18.9 million facility in Chell Heath on behalf of Stoke-on-Trent City Council.

The 113 one-and-two bedroom apartments are being built on the former Heathfield Special School site off Chell Heath Road.

Once compete, the complex - which will be called Chatterley Court - will offer independent living solutions for people over 55.

It will boast communal areas, dining rooms, gardens and additional support features including call alarm systems and easy access bathrooms.

Chatterley Court will offer independent living solutions for people over 55 (Stoke-on-Trent City Council).

Councillor Chris Robinson, Stoke-on-Trent City Council's cabinet member for Housing, said: "Equans is making fantastic progress on the Chatterley Court complex in Chell Heath. It is an impressive facility and I have no doubt that this will become an important asset in the city council's housing stock in the future.

"As a new administration, our intention is to review the planning process to make it easier and more straight forward for developers to build new homes in the city and enable home-owners to make improvements to their properties."

The scheme has also helped to boost employment locally with approximately 75 per cent of employees working on site living within 10 miles.

The facility, which will have electric vehicle (EV) charging points for residents and visitors, is expected to be complete by summer 2024.
