Plans to demolish a former newsagents in Longton have been rejected by Stoke-on-Trent City Council.

The three-storey building, on Caroline Street, is in a poor state, the roof has collapsed and windows have been boarded up.

Mr Mohammed Saeed applied for permission to demolish the building last month but his plans have been rejected by the council.

The officers report, published on 7 June, says more information would be needed regarding the methods of demolition before permission can be granted.

It states that only "very basic detail" and "vague references to machinery to be used on site" has been provided.

The three-storey building is in a poor condition and residents have called for it to be demolished (Nub News).

Consequently, "taking into consideration the information supplied, it is difficult to understand the exact methods of demolition proposed, as well as the proposal to restore the site.

"As such, the application cannot be considered of a sufficient enough standard to ensure that demolition works would not have a detrimental impact on local amenity."
