A pub in Stoke-on-Trent has closed this week as it undergoes a refurbishment - with a new "sports bar" taking shape.

The Horn and Trumpet, on Norton Retail Park off Leek New Road, will remain closed until Saturday 3 May while it undergoes a revamp to split the pub into two new spaces.

Marstons, who own the pub, say it will feature two distinct areas: a lively locals' bar and a cosy, family-friendly lounge, designed with families in mind with a central partition to divide the two spaces.

General manager Dan Maddox said: "We're thrilled to welcome everyone back after the refurbishment, and especially excited about our new sports bar.

"We're already a popular place for locals to come and watch live sports, we're excited to see how the developments further enhance our offering.

"So, whether you're grabbing a pint, enjoying a family meal, or celebrating something special, The Horn and Trumpet will be the perfect place to spend quality time with loved ones."

Marstons is spending £432,000 to revitalise the pub which will host a variety of events once it reopens.

Managers say there will be karaoke; smart quizzes with cash games afterward; cash bingo nights; live music every week; and regular family activities.
