Plans to transform a vacant pub site in Burslem into seven new flats have been given the green light by Stoke-on-Trent City Council.

Built in 1889, The White Hart, on Westport Road, was forced to close in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 lockdown and did not reopen.

In a Facebook post, manager Dave Berrisford wrote: "Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 restrictions the White Hart 80s and 90s bar will not be reopening.

"Unfortunately, I cannot pay the bills there no more because it has been shut for six months. Thanks to everyone who supported this venue when it was open. I am gutted to say the least."

The former pub has been closed since 2020 when it was forced to shut due to the pandemic (Nub News).

In May, HS Property Group applied for permission to transform the 199 square meter site into a block of flats.

The former pub will become six one-bed flats and one two-bed flat with seven cycle spaces for residents.

The officers report, by Olivia Williams, states that work must begin before 15 September 2026 and must only take place between 8am-6pm Monday-Saturday.
