Long-waited proposals for the redevelopment of an historic potbank should be revealed in the next few months.

Cabinet members at Stoke-on-Trent City Council are due to approve the new Spode Development Plan at a forthcoming meeting.

The regeneration of the Spode site in Stoke has been allocated £10 million of levelling up cash, but plans for more than 100 homes, along with offices and leisure facilities, were shelved by the council last year after concerns were raised over the developer, Nimrod Holdings Group.

The new development plan will set out the 'principles and proposed phases of delivery to regenerate the overall site'.

It is one of a number of items which are set to come before cabinet members over the coming months. Here are some of the other items included on the cabinet's forward plan:

New letting at One Smithfield

Cabinet members will be asked to approve the granting of a lease for the second floor of One Smithfield. The multi-coloured building, which is owned by the city council, has been occupied by various organisations over the years, including Staffordshire Police, Stoke-on-Trent CCG, and the council itself.

This decision is set to be taken behind closed doors.

Community Energy Scheme

More than 5,000 council homes in Stoke-on-Trent have had solar panels installed as part of the Community Energy Scheme, which launched in 2018.

But the scheme has been plagued with thousands of complaints over installations, billing and customer services.

Following an investigation by regulator Ofgem, customers were told last year that they would be able to leave the scheme at any point. CES also ammended the format of its bills to make them clearer.

Cabinet members will receive an update on the scheme and the 'progress made on the discharge of contractual obligations', and will take 'any required decision' in relation to this.

Disposal of Surplus Sites

Earlier this year cabinet members agreed to declare 11 sites surplus to requirements to enable 'alternative uses to come forward'.

These sites included Fenton Library and the former Stoke-on-Trent Gymnastics Centre in Burslem.

At a forthcoming meeting, cabinet members will be asked to declare a number of the council's assets 'surplus to current operational requirements'

Investment in a city centre hotel

The council provided a £6.9 million loan for the Hilton Garden Inn hotel (Nub News).

Cabinet members will be asked to approve an investment in a city centre hotel.

The forward plan does not include any further details about the hotel, but the previous plans for the Etruscan Square development, in Hanley, included proposals for a 138-bedroom hotel.

The city council has previously provided a £6.9 million loan for the Hilton Garden Inn hotel, part of the Smithfield development in the city centre.
