Plans for a new 24-hour pay and display car park in Hanley have been rejected because it "does not offer effective land use".

Marco Trading Co. Limited, based in Manchester, applied for permission in February 2023 to transform vacant land on Weaver Street into a pay and display car park.

The car park would operate for five years and provide 29 car parking bays, four of which would be accessible spaces.

These plans were refused on 6 April.

Concerns were also raised about the placement of spaces 13 and 14 (Marco Trading Co. Ltd)

In the case report published last week, the case officer claimed: "Whilst the proposal would utilise previously developed land within the city centre, it does not deliver a quality, well designed car parking solution.

"As a result, the proposal is considered to detract the long-term regeneration aspirations of the city centre and the application is recommended for refusal accordingly."
