Newcastle man arrested after petrol pump damaged in Chesterton

A man has been arrested after a petrol pump, worth in excess of £30,000, was damaged in Newcastle-under-Lyme.

Police were called to a petrol station on Talke Road, Chesterton, on Friday (7 April) night, following reports of criminal damage.

A black Nissan Nivaro was seen entering the petrol station just after 11.05pm.

Shortly after, a white Ford flat-bed tipper vehicle was seen reversing at speed into a petrol pump.

Both vehicles left the scene in convoy, police say.

Over £30,000 worth of damage was caused to the petrol pump (Google).

No one was reported injured, however, the damage caused to the pump was worth more than £30,000. 

A 34-year-old man, from Newcastle-under-Lyme, was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage to property and dangerous driving.

He has since been granted conditional police bail while inquiries continue.
