A planned safety exercise will take place in Fenton this week to ensure that emergency response plans are "prompt and effective".

The exercise will take place at the James M Brown site on Napier Street, Fenton on Thursday 16 October.

"The session will help emergency responders practice how they would respond if a serious incident were to happen at the site," Stoke-on-Trent City Council said.

"It's part of a legal requirement to test these plans every three years."

The exercise will include a realistic scenario to see how teams work together and make decisions quickly.

People in the area might notice more activity than usual, but everything is part of a planned exercise to make sure the city is prepared.

The exercise will take place between 9am and 1pm and is being organised with support from the Staffordshire Local Resilience Forum, which brings together emergency services, councils and other partners.

Cllr Amjid Wazir, deputy leader of the council and cabinet member for city pride, enforcement and sustainability, said: "Exercises like this are a vital part of making sure we're ready to respond quickly and effectively if a serious incident ever happens.

"They give us the chance to test our plans, work closely with emergency services and other partners, and make sure everyone knows what to do.

"Running exercises like this helps make sure that if a real emergency ever happens, everyone knows what to do and can respond quickly to keep people safe."
