Vicki Gwynne, Operations Manager for Middleport Matters, said: "This grant will help us to clean up local green spaces and streets, as well as educate local residents in recycling and protecting the environment.

"Regular litter picks and clean ups, alongside planting bulbs, plants and tidying up green spaces will improve the local area and encourage people to use bins, recycling facilities and use green spaces appropriately.

"We would like to say a huge thank you to National Grid Electricity Distribution for their support through this Community Matters grant."

Jill Russell, Environment Manager at National Grid, said: "We are thrilled to support dedicated community organisations like Middleport Matters in their efforts to transform green spaces and promote environmental sustainability.

"By investing in organisations like this, we aim to deliver a lasting positive impact for our communities and enhance the wellbeing of local people."

The Green Spaces Community Fund is the latest phase of National Grid's Community Matters Fund which has awarded £4.3 million to good causes since 2021.
