A brand new animated film made by Ukrainians is playing at Stoke cinemas.

Mavka. The Forest Song, based on ancient Ukrainian myths and legends, will be comfort viewing for our Stoke-based Ukrainians whether they moved here before the war or after it began.

The film is based on a 1918 poetic play, and will be shown at two Stoke cinemas following its release at the weekend.

Odeon Stoke of Etruria Rd will be showing the flick at 10:10am on Wednesday August 2 and 10:10am on Thursday August 3.

To make Ukrainians feel more at home, the first performance on Wednesday will be in their native tongue, whilst the Thursday performance will be in English.

You can book via the Odeon website.

Additionally, Vue Cinema in Newcastle-under-Lyme will be showing the 99 minute movie.

They will have an English screening at 10am on Wednesday August 2.

You can watch a trailer for the movie at the top of this article.

They will also show the film in English again at the same time on Thursday.

The child-friendly film is cheaper at Vue, with tickets starting from just £2.49.

Today marks 523 days since Russia invaded Ukraine, which began the displacement of millions, many of them children.
