A man has been jailed after admitting being involved in a knifepoint robbery at a convenience store in Stoke-on-Trent.
Ian Johnson, aged 54, of Abbey Hulton, was sentenced to 30 months in prison at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Thursday (18 December), after pleading guilty to robbery and possession of a bladed article in a public place.
Along with his prison term, Johnson was also ordered to pay a surcharge of £228 upon his release.
Johnson entered the store on Abbots Road in Abbey Hulton at 9.45am on 11 January 2025.
Staffordshire Police said: "He posed as a legitimate customer, before brandishing a large knife, threatening staff.
"He demanded cash and cigarettes before making off."
Officers attended the scene and arrested Johnson nearby after reviewing CCTV footage.
Johnson replied 'no comment' in interview but later admitted his offending in court.
Speaking following sentencing, Detective Constable Colin Hitchins, of our criminal investigation department, said: "Johnson was brazen in his threats to staff at the store who bravely raised the alarm.
"I am pleased Johnson later admitted his offences in court and hope his prison sentence reassures the community that we will continue to do all we can to get dangerous individuals out of our communities."
