A major takeaway chain is set to open another branch in Stoke-on-Trent after a planning application was approved by the city council.

Hertford Health submitted a planning application for the "change of use of retail shop to hot food takeaway" at a vacant unit on Riley's Court, High Street, Sandyford.

A Planning Statement reveals the unit will operate as Dominos - the pizza takeaway - allowing the relocation of the existing branch on High Street, Tunstall.

The Planning Statement continues: "The application site has remained vacant since its construction, completed in 2022 leaving a dead frontage and not contributing to the character and appearance of the area. As such the proposed change of use will deliver an active use and frontage in Riley's Court, encouraging footfall and generating employment.

Unit A is the only unoccupied unit on Riley's Court (Nub News).

"Indeed, the proposed development will create approximately 25 no. employment opportunities for local people, producing a contribution to local employment levels and benefiting the local economy.

"The site benefits from off-street parking directly to the south, which is shared by all 4 commercial units. It provides approximately 62 no. unrestricted parking spaces, including 4 no. disabled, 3 no. parent and child and 4 no. cycle parking spaces in Sheffield style racks."

These plans were approved by the council yesterday (29 January) after concerns about amenity and highway safety were addressed by Hertford Health.

The council said: "The application site is the last remaining unit which has remained unoccupied. The proposed use would bring forward this unoccupied unit for beneficial use whilst also creating a number of jobs to assist the local economy".

The new takeaway will employ ten full-time employees and 15 part-time employees and operate 9am to 11pm every day.
