A UK cash access and ATM network has announced people in Stoke-on-Trent will soon find it easier to access banking services thanks to a new banking hub.

Tunstall will benefit from a new banking hub as part of LINK's commitment to protect access to cash.

This comes as Lloyds Banking Group announced it will close a further 136 branches across the UK, including Lloyds in Tunstall.

Lloyds blamed the move on customers shifting away from banking in person to using online services.

A spokesperson said: "Over 20 million customers are using our apps for on-demand access to their money and customers have more choice and flexibility than ever for their day-to-day banking.

A new banking hub is set to open in the town (Nub News).

"Alongside our apps, customers can also use telephone banking, visit a community banker or use any Halifax, Lloyds or Bank of Scotland branch, giving access to many more branches.

"Customers can also do their everyday banking at over 11,000 branches of the Post Office or in a Banking Hub."

When opened, the new banking hub will consist of a counter service operated by Post Office employees, where customers of any bank can withdraw and deposit cash, make bill payments and carry out regular banking transactions.

In addition, there will be private spaces where customers can speak to community bankers from their own bank for more complicated matters that require specialist knowledge or privacy.

Dr Chris Ashton, Chief Commercial Officer at LINK said: "While more people are choosing to bank and pay for things digitally, we know that many people still rely on and choose to use cash and face-to-face banking.

"That's why we're delighted to recommend a new hub in Tunstall. There are over one hundred hubs open across the country and when it opens, the Tunstall banking hub will be vital for the local community and high street."

Lloyds, at Tower Square, Tunstall, will close on 9 March 2026.
