A Hanley man has been jailed after pleading guilty to numerous offences including stealing a car, shoplifting, and assaulting an emergency worker.

Mason McLatchie, 28, was sentenced to four years in jail at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Wednesday 3 December 2025.

In May 2024, McLatchie had forced entry into a house in Stoke-on-Trent and stole a designer jacket, mobile phone, and music speaker.

Just days later, he also stole goods from a shop in Hanley, and later in May he stole a Range Rover Sport from a car park in Stoke-on-Trent.

The stolen car was spotted on Hanley Road on the same day and when officers tried to stop it, the driver - later identified as McLatchie - drove over a kerb and down an embankment.

Ultimately, the car was returned to the owner with no damage.

Later, between Tuesday 4 June 2024 and Friday 14 June 2024, McLatchie stole more items including a handbag, a yellow hard hat and orange high viz and a card reader. He also damaged shutters at Intu Potteries Centre.

PC Lucy Young, of the Stoke-on-Trent north local policing team, said: "McLatchie is a prolific offender and we do not underestimate the impact that his crimes had on local people and businesses.

"A criminal behaviour order (CBO) has also been issued to McLatchie, which prevents him entering various businesses in Stoke-on-Trent for the next five years.

"We will continue to act robustly against those committing crime in our local communities."

In all, McLatchie pleaded guilty to:

  • One count of burglary dwelling and theft
  • One count of theft from a shop
  • One count of theft of a motor vehicle
  • One count of theft – other – including theft by finding
  • One count of criminal damage to property valued under £5,000
  • One count of assault by beating of an emergency worker
  • Two counts of burglary other than dwelling – theft
