Former youth centre set to be demolished in Stoke-on-Trent

A former youth centre and school in Stoke-on-Trent is set to be demolished next month.
Under the plans, the vacant building which housed the former Goldenhill Youth and Adult Centre and previously the Goldenhill Secondary Modern School will be demolished from the first week of March.
Lawton Rise Care Home Limited submitted the notification of demolition to Stoke-on-Trent City Council with hopes that it will deter further anti-social behaviour and enable the potential for future redevelopment.
The building on Heathside Lane is set for demolition from 3 March. The building sits directly behind the Lawton Rise Care Home in Goldenhill.
The application states: "It is proposed that the demolition works will commence in March 2025 and take no longer than 8 weeks
"Following the demolition works, it is proposed that the site will be made ready for redevelopment pending the grant of any future planning application.
"The site is occupied by a former school, which was most recently used as a Youth and Education Centre (the Goldenhill Centre).
"The main building comprises a single brick structure with a pitched roof. The building is arranged over one and two storeys with a part-basement. The structure is relatively unaltered from first construction.
"The condition of the building has deteriorated over time and serves no viable use."

"Moreover, notwithstanding security measures, the site has been the subject of on going anti-social behaviour and the proposed demolition will make the site safe (and deter break-ins) pending a potential future redevelopment scheme."
The demolition site will be accessed from Heathside Lane and the application states that vehicles will be washed to prevent a build-up of dirt on local roads.
The site working hours will be between 8am and 5pm, Monday to Friday and 8am to 1pm on Saturdays. There will be no work carried out on Sundays or Bank Holidays and no deliveries outside the regular working hours.
"The building is now vacant and run down and it has been heavily vandalised in recent years.
"The existing metal fencing to the boundaries will be retained."
The council have 28 days to respond to the notification and should no response be received by those 28 days it will be assumed the council has no further comments and demolition work will commence, the notification states.
