A planning application to demolish a former Stoke-on-Trent pub has been recommended for refusal today (4 April) as the site is of "high local importance".

The Bell and Bear, on Snow Hill, Shelton, has been vacant and boarded up for some time and the building has been subject to vandalism.

The applicant applied for permission in January 2023 to demolish the former pub to "make way for an appropriate regeneration scheme on this dominant and gateway corner site into the town centre".

An application to demolish the former pub has been recommended for refusal (Nub News).

Today, an officer's report has been published which recommends the application for refusal.

The report states that six objections were received, including concerns that the pub "is of high local importance and heritage value" and "the premises should be redeveloped and refurbished as opposed to demolished".
