Plans have been submitted to Stoke-on-Trent City Council for a brand-new Stoke-on-Trent secondary school and sixth form.

The proposed school, to be situated off Weston Road, Weston Coyney, would also have sports facilities and playing pitches, over 100 car parking spaces and associated access, drainage and landscaping.

The application form, by Bowmer & Kirkland, states: "The proposed development is a whole-school project, with 100% new build accommodation comprising a three-storey teaching block with a linked sports hall."

The school to be known as Florence MacWilliams Academy will provide a total capacity for 1,150 pupils upon full occupation, comprising 900 11-16 year old pupils and 250 post-16 pupils.

Florence MacWilliams Academy would be situated next to Foley Meir Football Club (Bowmer and Kirkland).

The application form also claims that the proposed school would not have a defined catchment area; it is intended to provide additional choice and quality of learning to existing residents in Stoke.

Some local residents have already objected to the plans however.

Mrs Edwards lives on Weston Road and she said: "The road is already very congested especially at peak times, school runs and people going to and from work.

"If a new high school was to be built with access from Weston Road this would have a detrimental impact on the residents who already struggle to get in and out of our homes due to traffic."

The school would have capacity for up to 1,150 pupils (Bowmer and Kirkland).

A decision has not yet been made regarding these plans.
