'Evening, all' as a former North Staffordshire police station is set to be converted into 12 self-contained flats for the elderly.

Councillors at Staffordshire Moorlands District Council recently granted planning permission for the Blythe Bridge site.

As part of the plans all the buildings on the site will be demolished, this includes the former police station and two residential buildings. In its place a two storey residential L shaped building will be constructed containing 12 self-contained flats with six flats on each floor.

The existing access to the library will be retained and as part of the proposal land has been allocated to the parish council for community use, however details are not currently available.

Councillor Keith Flunder (Con) told councillors: "It is my hope that after, and if this goes through today, that this site is developed. It's essentially for social housing as well, which I think is very important for the current administration here in the Staffordshire Moorlands and this fits and ticks that box very well.

A new 22 space car park will also be constructed for public use (Nub News).

"It gives them space, they've got greenspace around it, they've got their own car park. There is a community element to this as well with the addition of the community building. So from my own perspective I would very much like to recommend this for approval today."

Each flat is set to contain a living/dining room, kitchen and bathroom and storage area. A new 22 space carpark is set to be constructed for public use and at the rear of the site residents will have their own designated car park.

Councillor Ian Plant (Ind): "I drive past this site most days and it's been quite derelict for a number of years now. Obviously people have been used to a property being there, this just answers the space which is available to it."

Councillors at the planning committee passed the proposals unanimously with Councillor Bill Cawley joking that it should be named 'Evening, all'.
