Fire crews tackling blaze near railway line in Stoke-on-Trent

Fire crews are tackling a fire on land close to the railway line near Cliffe Vale and Shelton tonight.
The alarm was raised at 10:14pm on Friday (1 August) after plumes of smoke were seen billowing from a rail yard close to the train line as passenger services rolled past the blaze.
Images of the fire show a train carriage engulfed in flames and some smoke was previously seen across the A500.
Three crews are in attendance from Hanley, Loggerheads, and Longton. The flames were brought under control within half an hour and firefighters are continuing to dampen down the fire.
People are being advised to avoid the area.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue said: "We currently have 3 appliances from Hanley, Loggerheads, and Longton in attendance at a fire in Shelton, Stoke-On-Trent, near the cemetery.
"Please avoid the area to allow our crews to deal with the incident."
It follows a similar incident at the same location on Saturday 19 July where a huge fire engulfed derelict train carriages.
An investigation into the cause of that fire is still underway.
Stoke Nub News has approached Staffordshire Fire and Rescue for a statement.
