Fire crews extinguish huge derelict train carriage blaze in Stoke-on-Trent

Images have been released of a huge fire which engulfed derelict train carriages in Stoke-on-Trent over the weekend.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue responded to the blaze located on land off the West Coast Mainline near Cliffe Vale on Saturday evening (19 July).

The fire service was first alerted at 11:15pm with four fire engines and an aerial ladder platform used to extinguish the fire, off Shelton New Road.

British Transport Police and Network Rail were also in attendance and no one was reported injured.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue is continuing to investigate the cause of the blaze.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue said: "We were called to land off Shelton New Road at 11.15pm on Saturday (19 July) following reports of a large fire.

"Four appliances and our aerial ladder platform (ALP) attended the scene alongside colleagues from British Transport Police and Network Rail.

"Crews used three hose reel jets and two main jets to extinguish three carriages which were well alight.

"Nobody was reported injured.

"An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing."

Stoke Nub News has approached British Transport Police for a statement on the incident.
