Hundreds of Santas are expected to descend on a Stoke-on-Trent park in December as part of a new fundraising challenge organised by Douglas Macmillan.

The Blurton-based hospice is inviting supporters to take part in the charity 5km 'Santa Dash' at Hanley Park on Saturday 6 December.

The event hoped to raise funds which will allow the charity to care for adults, young adults and children with life-limiting illnesses in Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire, along with providing support for their families.

Alongside the 5km run, a shorter 2km 'Mini Dash' will be taking place for children or those who would prefer a shorter route to help make the event accessible for partipants of all ages and abilities.

A free Santa suit is included for those who take part (aged five or over) as part of registration. There will also be face painting and seasonal music for participants and spectators.

Deborah Vickers, Head of Business and Events Fundraising at Dougie Mac, said: "This is the first time we've organised a Santa Dash and we are hoping as many people as possible will join us for what promises to be a truly festive occasion.

"It's a fantastic family-friendly event and a brilliant way to support the hospice during the Christmas season. Every step you take helps support local families facing life-limiting illnesses.

"So, lace up your trainers, pop on your Santa suit and join us for the most festive fundraiser of the year!"

The event, sponsored by StairBox, kicks off on Saturday, December 6 at Hanley Park.

Registration will take place from 9am, there will be a warm-up at 10am and the dashes will start from 10.15am.

Registration for the 5km Santa Dash and the 2km Mini Dash cost £15 for adults (aged 18 or over) and £12 for five to 17-year-olds. Four and under and well-behaved dogs are also welcome to spectate.
