A man has been treated for smoke inhalation following a kitchen fire in Kidsgrove, prompting Staffordshire Fire and Rescue to issue a cooking safety reminder.

Crews from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue were called at 1.55pm on Tuesday (28 October) to a house on Congleton Road following reports of a fire.

Two fire engines attended the scene and found a small fire in the kitchen.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire using a hose reel jet. One man was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.

Watch Manager Neil Gordon said: "This fire was later deemed to have been caused accidentally by tea towels being dried inside an oven.

"I would like to remind people that the oven should not be used for anything other than cooking.

"Pans should also always be taken off the heat if you have to leave the room and when you have finished cooking, make sure that the oven is turned off."
