Car crashes into takeaway on a Stoke-on-Trent road

A busy Stoke-on-Trent road is closed this morning after a car crashed into a takeaway building.

Emergency services were alerted to the incident at Rose Fast Food takeaway on Scotia Road in Burslem at 6am today (20 July).

One man has been taken to hospital by the West Midlands Ambulance Service and drivers are being advised to avoid the area.

The front of the ground-floor takeaway has been destroyed by the crash along with the flat upstairs.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue is also at the scene along with officials from Stoke-on-Trent City Council.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: "We are currently at the scene of a road traffic collision in Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent.

"We were called to Scotia Road at 6am today (Sunday 20 July) following reports of a car colliding with a building.

"One man has been taken to hospital.

"Officers are at the scene alongside colleagues from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service and West Midlands Ambulance Service.

"Motorists are advised to avoid the area."

A spokesperson for Stoke-on-Trent City Council said: "Motorists are being advised to take extra time for their journeys after part of Scotia Road was closed after a car crashed into a building near to Dimensions Leisure Centre. 

"Lengthy diversions are in place around the part of the road affected, between Burslem and Tunstall, following the closure at around 6am.

"Dimensions will remain open to visitors."
