'Where smoke meets flavour': New restaurant opens in Stoke-on-Trent

By Jordan Edwards 19th Jul 2025

A new restaurant has opened in Stoke-on-Trent.

Micii, on Piccadilly in Hanley, is based at the unit formerly occupied by barbecue restaurant Pig & Pitchfork which closed in January.

Aurelia and Iulian, who live in Fenton and are originally from Romania, are taking on the premises with a range of dishes cooked over the restaurant's barbecue grill.

The menu includes a skinless grilled Romanian sausage called 'Mititei' and other grilled meat sharing platters, which are served with homemade pickles and a range of sauces.

In addition there is lamb, beef, halloumi and chicken skewers and a range of street food which is available to takeaway.

Aurelia and Iulian hope their twist on the barbecue inspired by their home country will bring something different to the Cultural Quarter.

Aurelia said: "We think this is something new and good for Hanley and I love this street with all the independent businesses so we decided to open here.

"We are doing a mix of a restaurant and takeaway so people can come and dine in with us at the restaurant or take the food away with them and enjoy somewhere else.

"The food is cooked over a barbecue fresh to order and we will also be serving soft drinks but no alcohol."

The pair have been working flat out to get the restaurant ready for opening day and are sure customers will enjoy the food that they have to offer.

Iulian has also been juggling his time preparing for the opening whilst also studying for a project management degree at Keele University.

Iulian added: "We are definitely going to listen to customers because we are Romanians and we are coming from the perspective of a certain culture and we are in a different one here.

There is also upstairs and outside seating. (Nub News)

"So we're open to find a compromise just in case things won't go as we expect - but I'm sure people will really like it.

"It has been tough getting open we slept for four hours last night and we want to make everything right but we are taking it one step at a time as the day only has 24 hours.

"Right now for us is 90 per cent business and 10 per cent life but it will be worth it when people come through the door to try our food for the first time."

Micii will be open midday-10pm Monday-Thursday and Friday-Saturday midday-2am. For the opening few weeks, the restaurant will close earlier Friday-Saturday.
