A new Burger King branch could be built close to an existing fast food restaurant and drive-thru in Fenton.
A second bid has been made for the burger giant to come to Fenton after a previous application for the site on the junction of King Street and City Road was turned down by Stoke-on-Trent City Council last year.
The latest plans submitted to the authority propose a single-storey building with takeaway and drive-thru facilities as well as a car park at Staffs Industrial Estate.
If approved the new restaurant would be near the town's KFC branch.
A design and access statement submitted as part of the application said: "The site is currently vacant and forms part of a wider site occupied by Staffs Fitness Ltd and various tenants .Originally the site was a colliery and occupied for many years by the various guises of 'The Coal Board.'
"In January 2021 a planning application was made on the site for a two storey Burger King (and) on the 15th February 2022 this application was refused.
"The applicant entered into dialogue with City of Stoke planning department to address the reasons for refusal. The applicant entered into dialogue with City of Stoke planning department to address the reasons for refusal.
"One reason was that the proposed building was too large and utilitarian on a visually prominent site. It was agreed to reduce the scale of the building from two storey to ground floor only; also the mixture of cladding and brickwork was deemed inappropriate in that location, so the building was re-designed to be completely in red brickwork.
"The application site has been vacant for a number of years and is in a prominent position. Given that there are other drive thru offers immediately adjacent to site, this use sits comfortably amongst them and adds to the redevelopment of this prominent junction position."
