Boxer Tyson Fury's dad has been slapped with a £1,574 fine for failing to tell Staffordshire Police who was driving his car.

John Fury, 60, was charged after his 1992 Mercedes 190E was snapped by motorway cameras on a smart section of the M6 between Keele and Stoke.

A court heard Staffordshire Police posted a letter to Fury requesting his driver details on July 14 last year.

The court heard the ex-bare knuckler fighter failed to provide the details within 28 days.

Failing to provide driver details is a breach of the Road Traffic Act 1988.

Fury, of Styal, Wilmslow, Cheshire, denied the charge.

He did not attend North Staffordshire Justice Centre for his trial on Monday (23 February).

Magistrates found the charge of failing to provide driver details proven and Fury was fined £1,574 for the offence and ordered to pay within 28 days.

Lead magistrate Darrell Wood said: "Mr Fury will be fined £660 based on the assumed weekly income of £440, plus £650 in costs and £264 in victim surcharge.

"The overall fine of £1,574 is to be paid with 28 days."

Prosecutor Charlotte Morgan said: "On 14 July one of the Home Office approved detection devices detected an offence involving a motor vehicle.

"The details of the vehicle were transmitted to the police.

"This data auto-populated.

"On 16 July 2024 a notice for prosecution was sent via Royal Mail."

Reading a statement from Staffordshire Police, Ms Morgan added: "A final reminder was sent second class via Royal Mail to the above person at the above address.

"I have checked the computer system for a reply but there is no record of a reply being received from the defendant John Fury."

A second charge relating to allegations that Fury drove down a closed motorway lane were dismissed.

Fury recently shocked fans after announcing an unexpected bout with former super middleweight champion Carl Froch.

Fury Sr is set to fight Froch on the same night his son Tyson makes his boxing comeback against Arslanbek Makhmudov on April 11.
