Arrest made after man seen 'holding a knife' near Stoke-on-Trent school

A man has been arrested following reports of a man with a knife near a school in Stoke-on-Trent.

Police were called to Pinewood Crescent, Meir, at 3.20pm yesterday (18 June) following reports of a man holding a knife and wearing a balaclava.

The school went into lockdown as a precaution whilst officers searched the area.

Police later seized a screwdriver and arrested a 46-year-old man, from Stoke-on-Trent, on suspicion of possessing a sharp pointed article in a public place.

Following the incident, police arrested a 46-year-old man and seized a screwdriver (Nub News).

He will be questioned in custody.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: "We'd like to speak to anyone who saw what happened or those with CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage of the area at the time.

"Call 101, quoting incident 393 of 18 June, or message us using Live Chat on our website."
