A local retirement community operator has explained why now could be the right time to move.
Adlington Retirement Living, who operate Brookfields House in Newcastle-under-Lyme, has explained that despite the cooler market, the underdevelopment of retirement living homes could mean that now could be the right time to downsize.
By 2040, the number of over-75s is projected to rise by 38 per cent, but only around 7,300 new retirement homes are completed each year according to the JLL Seniors Housing Report.
With developers delaying or reducing their build programmes due to wider market uncertainty, the number of new retirement apartments coming to market could fall even further.
A spokesperson from Adlington Retirement Living said: "With house price growth slowing, mortgage costs higher, planning delays and buyer confidence dipping, many developers are rethinking their plans.
"But while the market hesitates, that doesn't mean you have to. In fact, this may be one of the best times to consider a move."

Adlington Retirement Living provides support to homeowners throughout the process of selling and moving.
Margaret, a homeowner at Brookfields House, said: "The house sale was stressful, but Adlington kept supporting me.
"They were wonderful, regularly phoning to say, 'Don't worry, we'll sort it'. I valued this reassurance.
"Moving day itself went amazingly well, the big boxes were unpacked by The Senior Move Partnership, and there was a gorgeous hamper waiting for me from Adlington.
"After all the initial stress, it was such a positive experience."
Other homeowners explained that their family-sized homes no longer suited their needs, encouraging them to downsize.
Homeowners Joan and Bill, said: "We were two people in a huge house, and that wasn't fair with families looking to move.
"We loved it, but the time had come."

Adlington Retirement Living explained that their homeowners move for a variety of reasons including lifestyle, health, finances or simply peace of mind.
Homeowners also enjoy several benefits including:
- Freedom from maintenance
- 24/7 support, if and when you need it
- Built-in community and social connection
- Peace of mind for you and your family
Many homeowners have described the move as a positive turning point.
Avril, a homeowner at Brookfields House whose son lives overseas, said: "I've made new friends, and I can tell they're going to be like a second family."
Another homeowner, Dr. Trevor, realised: "I'm more socially active here than I have been for a long time.
"I'd become totally isolated before moving here."

A spokesperson for Adlington Retirement Living added: "That's why the move can thankfully feel more like a gift than a compromise.
"So, while the headlines may shout slowdown, perhaps it's time to see things differently: a moment to act boldly, live well, and shape your future with purpose.
"After all, retirement living isn't about stepping away, it's about stepping forward into the next chapter, on your own terms."
