A Stoke-on-Trent pub has announced that a "seven-figure" refurbishment project to renovate its 40-room hotel has started.

The project, at the Weathervane on Lysander Road, comes after the completion of a 'top-to-bottom' renovation of the Hungry Horse pub earlier this year.

Part of pub company and brewer Greene King, the Weathervane will remain open to both pub customers and hotel guests throughout the investment process.

Greene King says the refurbishment - which commenced this week - is expected to be completed this December.

Terri Alcock, general manager at the Weathervane, said: "Following the successful refurbishment of our pub earlier in the year, we're thrilled to be announcing an exciting new chapter for the Weathervane hotel as we start a top-to-bottom renovation this autumn.

"The hotel is a popular spot for those travelling to Stoke-on-Trent for work or leisure, and we're looking forward to making stays even better for our guests with a new look and feel.

"We are open while the works are going on and we'd like to thank our customers for their understanding while we make these improvements as we hope to keep disruption to a minimum."

Work has begun on the ground floor rooms, with the pub hoping to create a "sleek and stylish new look for guests"

As part of the project, the bathrooms in the accessible rooms will be converted into wet rooms to help improve access for visitors.

The first floor will have a "full refresh" of the upstairs reception area, bedrooms, bathrooms and corridors, with modern furniture, décor and amenities set to be introduced throughout.

The conference room is also due to be fully redecorated with new furniture and lighting as well as an upgraded TV and sound system.
