Weekend of events set to celebrate 'spectacular' Stoke-on-Trent centenary mural

Hanley is set to come alive for a celebration for a yet-to-be-unveiled mural to honour Stoke-on-Trent's history and heritage.
The 100 Years 100 Faces Mural will honour 100 figures from unsung heroes to well-known icons who have shaped the Potteries and its legacy.
Starting on Saturday, the 100 Years 100 Faces weekend celebration, will see DJ stages, children's art area, themed artisan market and more to celebrate the official unveiling of the mural on Sunday.
Stoke-on-Trent City Centre BID chairman, Jonathan Bellamy, said: "This mural will be a bold, colourful celebration of all that is good and great about our city, its heritage, and the people who have helped to make it.
"I can't wait for it to be shared with the people of this city. Do join us for a family friendly, party atmosphere in the city centre throughout the day, enjoy this unique piece of artwork, and feel proud together of our shared story."
The public will be able to view the completed artwork in its full scale for the first time on Sunday 14 September along with an accompanying trail map and commemorative book which will be available to purchase later this year.
Saturday's events include an artisan market between 10am and 4pm, DJ Stages in Piccadilly and Fountain Square as well as a 'Kids' Art area' where selected work created will be displayed in Bethesda Gardens next year.
In addition there will be historical characters in the city centre on Saturday, with an interactive prize trail for children and a 'Makers in the Mall' event hosted by Yellow by Keep it Local.
Of the mural, Stoke-on-Trent City Centre BID lead director for place marketing, Paul Williams, said: "A fascinating journey through Stoke-on-Trent's history over the past 100 years, this spectacular mural is a living tribute to the many wonderful people and the part they each played in shaping our city across the decades.
"Each of the nominated faces have been cleverly depicted in a centenary legacy art installation by local artists Rob Fenton and Alastair Barnett to create a series of made in Stoke-on-Trent story arcs spanning the last century and looking ahead to the next."
